豆市松人形 目 Tiny Ichimatsu Doll Eyes

豆市松人形の目についてです。
I'm going to talk about the eyes for my tiny ichimatsu dolls.

まず、厚紙に目を描き切り抜きます。これで白目と黒目の比率を確認しながら描いていくのです。
First, draw the eye on a thick paper and cut it out. Use this to check the size of the iris of the eye and also check the ratio of the iris and the white part.

次に元の薄いガラスに描かれた黒目の塗料を落とします。墨だったみたいで、水で綺麗に落ちました。
Next, wipe off the paint on the thin glass eyes. It was easily came off with a Q-tip soaked water, I guess it was a kind of water-based ink.

厚紙の裏にマスキングテープを貼ってガラスの目を固定して描きます。この作業中に一つ目をなくしてしまいました（後日見つけました）ので、すぐに代わりの目を注文したのです。
Put masking tape on the back of the thick paper and fix glass eye plate and draw pupil and iris. I lost one glass eye plate in this procedure (I found it later), so I bought new glass eyes immediately after the incident.

それがこれです。４ミリの球体ガラスの目、茶色です。小さいのにとても綺麗です。
This is it. 4mm round glass eyes, brown. They are so tiny but beautifully made, I am so impressed.

解説をチャーミーに手伝ってもらうことにしました。
I asked Charmy to help me explaining about this eyes.

全体的な大きさはちょうどいいのですが、黒目部分が大きすぎるのが気になります。
The overall size of the eye is good but I think the size of the iris is too big for the doll.

私が描いた黒目はこんな感じになりました。小さすぎて綺麗な円が描けませんが、一応瞳孔は黒、虹彩は茶色になっています。
These are the eyes I draw the iris on. Since it is way too small, it was impossible for me to draw perfect circles; however I made the pupil black and iris brown.

このように黒目の大きさが２倍以上違います。これでは色々と予定が狂ってしまいます。新しい目は綺麗なんですがねぇ。元の薄いガラスに上手に黒目が描ければ問題ないのですが。ちょっと悩んでいます。
In this way, the size of the iris differs more than double. If I use new one, it will mess the entire plan, though they are pretty and beautiful. I know there will be no problem if I can draw nicely but... I need to think about this again.

豆市松人形 顔 Tiny ichimatsu dolls ~face repair~

豆市松人形の修理ですが、左京くんの片目をなくしてしまい、作業が滞っていました。オークションで代わりの目を購入したら、今日になって見つかりました。代わりの目の方が綺麗ならそちらを使ってみようかと思います。
About the repair of tiny ichimatsu dolls: it was completely delayed because I lost Sakyo-kun's eye. I bought  new glass eyes (they are so tiny, only 4mm) but I found it today! If new glass eyes are better than old eyes, then I'm going to use new one.

顔はここまで出来ています。両耳を作り、顔を左右対称に粘土を盛りつけました。これから目をはめて、更に造形を整えていきます。
Their faces are made this far. I made both ears, and made their faces bilateral symmetry with stone clay. I need to put their eyes and then do further works.

豆市松人形 耳

豆市松人形の耳を作っています。まだ片耳ですがこんな感じです。
I am making ears for tiny ichimatsu dolls. It looks like this, they got only one ear each though.


耳というのは個人によってかなり違うものです。そしてとても複雑で作るたびに苦戦します。小さいから余計に難しいです。
Each ear has distinctive shape. I struggle to make one whenever I try. This time it is harder since they are so small.

豆市松人形 軽く修理

解体が終わった後の２人はそれぞれパーツを間違えないように袋に入れて保存していました。
After disjointing two tiny ichimatsu dolls, I put each of them into small bags so that I don't make a mistake which one is which.


それからおおまかに左京君のパーツを石粉粘土で修理しました。細かい作り込みはまだ後です。
Then I roughly even out Sakyo-kun's body parts with stone clay. I will do the details later.


右京ちゃんのパーツも軽く表面を均しておきます。二人とも以前よりも少しふっくらさせる予定です。あの不自然な穴やら劣化で出来たヒビも埋めます。
I did the same to Ukyo-chan. Both of them will be a bit chubbier than original. I filled that mystery hole and other cracks due to increasing age with stone clay.


親指の先にも粘土をのせておきました。小さいので細かい修理が大変になりそうですが、なかなか楽しい作業です。
I repaired thumb with stone clay. It will be very difficult repair work since they are tiny tiny ichimatsu dolls, but I found it quite fun.

豆市松人形 右京ちゃんの解体

昨日４７個目の琴爪入れが完成し、ちょっと寄り道的に久しぶりの編み物をしています。うちのうさぎのセバスチャンそっくりの編みぐるみを編んでます。
I finished the 47th crape cloth craft bag yesterday, and I now enjoy crocheting after a long time. I am making a bunny amigurumi which exactly looks like my rabbit Sebastian.


右京ちゃんの解体です。右京ちゃんはまあまあ状態が良かったので、解体するのは少し躊躇われましたが、やはり左京くんと一緒に綺麗にしようということで、素早く解体しました。ボディーの胡粉をせっせと落としていると、どこからともなく視線が。。。
About the breaking up of small ichimatsu doll. I kind of hesitated to take her to pieces since she was in fairly good condition but I did it anyway because I wanted both of them look good. When I was sanding off her body, I noticed someone's eye from somewhere...


右京ちゃんが嬉しそうにこちらを見ていました。綺麗になるのが嬉しいと解釈し、作業を進めました。
It was Ukyo-chan. I took it as "she must be very happy about this repair" and went on with my work.


胴体と足を繋ぐ和紙をはがしたら、こんな所にこんな謎な穴が開いていました。ちなみに左京くんにはありませんでした。
When I peeled off the old Japanese paper, which connects body and legs, I found a strange hole in a strange place. I didn't see one in Sakyo-kun by the way.


２体目の解体なので結構すんなりと終わりました。手首を折らないように気をつけたりコツも掴みました。髷も引っ張るとあっさり取れました。
I finished taking her into pieces easily since this is the seond time. I think I have the knack of it, like not breaking the wrist. Her hair easily came off as I pulled.

豆市松人形 左京くんの解体

状態が悪かった左京くんの方から解体していきました。
The dissection of Sakyo-kun, who had more damages.


まずは顔の胡粉からはがしていきました。すると目が簡単にはずれてしまいました。かなりモロくなっていたのですね。
First, I sanded off face gofun. Then the eyes took off very easily. I guess they were old and fragile.


何に驚いたって目がこんな薄いってことです。今迄人形を作るのに平べったいタイプのドールアイを使ったこともありますが、ここまで薄いものは見たことも聞いたこともありません。
What made me surprised the most, these eyes! I have been used many kinds of doll eyes, from sphere type to flat type, but never seen this thin glass eyes.


胡粉を全て取り除いてパーツを解体しました。腕が細くて折れてしまいましたが、これは後ほど補強しますので問題はありません。頭部も前後を貼付けてあったのが緩んでいてパカッと割れました。
After sand off gofun. Each part is clear now. The arm broke because it was too thin but it's okay I will fix and strengthen with stone clay later. The head was divided into 2 parts because the glue which was holding both head parts together was old and loose. These will be fixed later too.


改めてあの薄い目を観察してみました。小さいし薄い！
I examined these thin eyes again. They are unexpectedly small and thin!


拡大してみました。薄さ１ミリ以下です。黒目の部分はなんとこのガラスに直接黒の塗料で楕円に塗られているだけでした。左右のガラスの大きさも黒目の大きさも不揃いでした。
Picture enlarged. It is less than 1mm. Pupil and iris are just painted on the glass with some kinds of ink. The sizes of left and right galss eyes are different and the sizes of pupils and iris are also irregular.

豆市松人形 観察

次の琴爪入れにもう着手しているのですが、今日は豆市松人形の修理の経過を紹介します。ちょっと画像が多く長くなります。
I've already started working on next Japanese crape cloth craft bag (a.k.a chirimenzaiku - kototsumeire) but I'd like to write about what is going on with the repair of my tiny ichimatsu dolls today. It might be a long diary with quite many pictures.


人形は胡粉を全てはがし、造形を粘土で補修しますので、まずは着物を脱がせてどういう状態になっているか確認しつつ、出来るだけ元に近い状態に戻せるように覚えておかないといけません。着物を脱がすと胴紙を巻いたのが見えてきました。
I am planning to sand off all the gofun on the face and body and then repair with stone clay as much as possible. So, I need to examine how they are made and composed, and need to know how bad the damage is. I also need to remember how their body parts are built together so that I can repair them to the closest state to the original. After I took off their obi and kimono, I saw naked dolls with the old Japanese paper wrapped around their bodies.


状態の良い方の人形（右京ちゃんと呼んでいます）でさえ、着物の下はこんな状態。首の付け根に大きな穴が開いています。虫食いか、それとも劣化か？
I knew one of them has obvious damage on its face but even this relatively-good-condition one (I call her Ukyo-chan) is this bad under her kimono. There is a huge hole between neck and shoulder. Is it worm-eaten or decay?


胴紙をはがすと、人形の胴体と足を繋げていた古い和紙が今にもはがれ落ちそうなのが見えました。普段見えないところが見えるのは面白いです。
When I took off the paper around the body, I saw another paper, which connects doll's body and legs, looks like it is going to be torn off. It is very interesting to see places you can't usually see.


２体とも着物を脱がせた状態。左：胴紙無し、右：胴紙有り。

状態が悪い方の子（左京くん）は胴体は酷い損傷もなく綺麗でしたが、足先指先が悲しい状態で、胡粉ははがれおち、中の木の粉が露出しています。
The other one (I call him Sakyo-kun) with huge damage on his face was in surprisingly good body condition (considering his face damage). However, his toe and fingers were partially missing and exposing base materials.


両方とも胴紙無しの状態で。こうして見ると、向かって左側は女の子、右側は男の子に見えなくもありませんよね？？？髪の毛の有無に関わらず。
Without body papers. Don't you think the left one (Ukyo-chan) looks like a girl and the right one (Sakyo-kun) looks like a boy??? Regardless of the presence of hair.


そこで修理の順番を待っててね。

豆市松人形

ちょっと前にオークションで入手した豆市松人形の修理についてです。


昭和初期くらいの双子です。とても小さいです。１体は顔の胡粉がはがれかけています。性別は不明ですが、着物は女の子のものっぽいです。片方の帯が腰で結ばれていますが、これは一度誰かが帯をはずして、また結び直した時にこの高さになったようです。元はちゃんとウエストで結ばれていました。


右側にいたので「右京ちゃん」と名付けました。この子は比較的状態が良かったです。


右京ちゃんの手。小さいですが、とても綺麗に作られています。欠けもありません。


右京ちゃんの足です。綺麗な状態で欠けがありませんでした。胴紙には「Made in Japan」とスタンプが押してありました。


こちらは左側にいたので「左京くん」。可哀想な状態です。顔の胡粉はひび割れはがれそう。手足の先も欠けていました。顔のヒビには前の持ち主が目立たなくなるように、黄色い粉（ファンデーションか？）をつけていました。左京くんは男の子っぽい感じがします。元は髪の毛があったと思われますが、見事にツルツルになっております。

左京くんの方の状態があまりによろしくないので修理をすることに決めたのですが、よく見ると右京ちゃんの耳もなかったりしますし、片方だけが綺麗な状態というのもおかしいので、思い切って２体とも修理することにしました。胡粉の塗り直しではなくて、造形も少し直したいので、修理というよりも、ほぼ作り直しになります。ちょこちょこ手を入れていますが、面白い発見も多く、楽しんでいます。
